PLAN A GREAT VISIT
Sometimes a spontaneous, unplanned visit can be terrific. Other times you may enjoy planning ahead and anticipating your time at the museum. For those of you who prefer the latter, here are some tips to making the most of your visit:
Plan to spend about an hour and a half to see everything. Shorter visits are certainly possible, but visitors typically stay at least 90 minutes and often much longer. That will give you time to:
...view the quilts in a leisurely manner,
...take in the information in an optional audio tour,
...check out the Virtual Gallery and its array of interactive options,
...observe activities in the Conservation Work Room,
...pay a visit to the museum store,
...rest your feet, enjoy a beverage!
The museum is fully accessible and a wheel chair is available on a first-come, first-served basis (just inquire at the admissions desk).
- When is the museum open?
Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. Closed Mondays and major holidays.
The museum will also be closed during the winter University shut-down, December 24, 2008 through January 1, 2009.
- Will I see all the quilts in the collection?
You will see 50-75 quilts hung in the galleries in well-planned exhibitions designed to inform and inspire you. The exhibitions have themes or areas of focus and the quilts are drawn from the collections to support the themes.
In the virtual gallery you may view nearly full size projections of hundreds of the quilts.
- Are groups welcome?
Group tours are encouraged: please call or email ahead to set an appointment so that we can be sure to have a docent scheduled to guide your tour.

- Should we bring the kids?
Absolutely...young people are some of our favorite visitors. There is so much to learn from quilts and children are easily engaged in the color, design and stories that surround them at the museum. And the Virtual Gallery is perfect for today's techno-savvy youth...they can all show us a thing or two!
- Is parking available? Is there a fee?
Ample FREE parking is available just north of the museum, with some overflow spaces on the west side of the museum.Parking is FREE but please be careful to choose a VISITOR parking slot, note your vehicle license plate number and register that at the admissions desk when you enter. This link opens a diagram of the parking lots.
